The heritage, founding vision, and continuing journey of Word and Life Network.
The Word and Life Network was born in 2003 out of a deep conviction to extend spiritual covering, mutual accountability, and brotherhood beyond the walls of traditional church structures.
Founded by the late Pastor Ronnie Barnard, the network began as a modest fellowship of 15 local churches in South Africa. Pastor Ronnie envisioned a platform where independent pastors and church leaders would no longer stand alone in isolation, but walk together in covenant relationship.
Inspired by Matthew 5:14, the foundational heartbeat was clear: every local church, regardless of size or geographic location, should become a city on a mountain that cannot be hidden—shining the light of Christ across communities and nations.
How a small pioneer fellowship grew into an international ministry network.
Pastor Ronnie Barnard gathers 15 independent churches to establish a relational network focused on pastoral care and constitutional integrity.
Expansion across South African provinces, establishing regional hubs and founding the WNL Network Training Academy to equip unaccredited leaders.
Under Presiding Pastors Renaldo & Sharali Barnard, WNL connects hundreds of churches, global mission partnerships, and accredited training programs.
“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
A core historical priority of Word and Life Network has been bridging the gap between passionate ministry calling and formal academic accreditation.
Pastor Ronnie Barnard initiated the WNL Network Training Academy to provide accredited, SAQA-aligned, and ACRP-registered qualifications for pastors who lacked access to traditional seminary education.
Today, through continuous professional development (PCD) modules, annual Connect Conferences, and regional pitstops, WNL continues to elevate pastoral standards while preserving fervent, Spirit-led ministry.
Four commitments that remain unshakeable across generations.
Cultivating personal spiritual maturity and Christ-like leadership in every pastor.
Fostering genuine brotherhood and relational covenant among ministry leaders.
Serving local congregations and communities with compassionate Kingdom action.
Boldly proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ across all nations and generations.
